Marina is a writer, explorer, bookworm and has lived in Cape Town forever. Working as a Community Manager for Yuppiechef.com, she has developed a keen interest in the art of using social media to build a brand online. When she finished school smartphones didn’t exist and social media was a twinkle in the internet’s eye. After completing undergraduate studies in English and Psychology at UCT in 2005 she pursued an interest in branding at Red and Yellow School of Logic and Magic then spent a very long year working in advertising before escaping into a more entrepreneurial domain, taking an opportunity to manage a Cape Town based job creation project that employed forty previously disadvantaged women in a craft project. After two and a half years – including learning Xhosa, starting a food garden in Khayelitsha, running a stand at Design Indaba and shipping handcrafted bags all over the world – she moved over to the
pink green pastures ofYuppiechef.com, joining the startup as its sixth employee in 2010.
Wearing many hats as Yuppiechef grew, she eventually carved a happy niche in online community management and now spends her days dreaming up how to draw foodies, people and their pets into the world of Yuppiechef through social media. Speaking on behalf of Yuppiechef in social spaces for four years, she has a heap of fun dodging trolls, diffusing keyboard confidence and striving to win strangers over in 140 characters. Yuppiechef’s social media spaces include Facebook
, Google+ and Vine.
Besides all of the above Marina also finds time to blog. You can read her very interesting blog here
