Shortly after starting to write her blog www.thefoodfox.com at the beginning of 2011, Ilse van der Merwe decided to change lanes from a long and successful career in the music management & events industry to food writing. Over the past 3 years she has emerged as a multidimensional food writer, recipe developer, social media content writer, dinner demo host, trout monger and general food entrepreneur.

Ilse has always had a passion for food TV, and has cooked some of her favourite recipes on various South African TV programs including SABC3’s Expresso, kykNET’s Dagbreek, SABC2’s Pasella and SABC3’s Top Billing. She has also teamed up with Nicola Pretorius (stylist and co-founder of The Pretty Blog) and Tasha Seccombe (photographer) to form one of the most popular food content teams in the local blogging world, creating beautiful recipes and pictures on a weekly basis for www.theprettyblog.com.

Ilse has exciting business plans for 2014, one of which includes setting up a brand new food consultancy in the heart of her hometown, Stellenbosch. Together with her husband Schalk and daughter Valki, they continue to discover the magic of living in the culinary capitol of South Africa.

Ilse will be participating in the panel discussion “Turning your Blog into a Book – or a whole new Career”
