Originally from Mexico City, Carmen studied photography in London, where she continued to master the technical and creative aspects of the art. Now based in Cape Town, she works as a freelance photographer specialising in commercial, fashion and beauty photography. Carmen is also a foodie and ever-keen to expand on her subject-matter, so invariably this has led to her shooting some delectable comestibles over the years.
Carmen has worked for clients such as Schwarzkopf, African Luxury Brands, Nando’s UK and Spier, and has exhibited her personal work in the Truman Brewery Gallery in Shoreditch (London), the Exposure Gallery, in Woodstock (Cape Town) and Union House in Gardens (Cape Town).
Carmen’s obsession is light, and her mastery in controlling and capturing it with a camera is peerless. Her workshop on lighting techniques will contain everything from the basics of lighting to more advanced techniques to building your own basic lighting equipment for those shoestring-budget-shoots. The workshop is aimed at anyone who wants to improve their lighting and shooting techniques.
Carmen has very kindly stepped up to the plate and taken over Jeanne’s workshop “Upgrade your photos without spending a cent (including how to read & recreate a photo, post-processing basics)” She will be running this workshop together with her husband Vincent Riess who, rumour has it, is quite the PhotoShop boss!
