So far, we have only introduced you to sponsors who will be sponsoring products for the goodie bags and on the day of the Indaba – but today we want to introduce you to two of our generous auction sponsors. As we explained previously, at the end of the Indaba we are holding a charity auction in which 100% of the proceeds will go to our chosen charity for 2014, the South African Guide-Dogs Association for the Blind. A number of companies have come forward with really generous and totally desirable prizes – today we are highlighting two that will appeal to the fine dining lovers among you!

Occupying what must surely be one of the best locations of any hotel worldwide is the 12 Apostles Hotel and Spa in Cape Town. Drive through Camps Bay and after all the other buildings have dropped away behind you, you will find this luxury hotel perched in solitary splendour between the mountain cliffs and the Atlantic ocean. For the auction, the hotel has very kindly donated:
- a 3-course dinner for 2 people from the set menu at their award-winning Azure restaurant (which I reviewed last year)
- complimentary use of their private in-house cinema
- popcorn, candies, ice-creams and a hot chocolate or milkshake of the day, served in your seat so you don’t have to miss a moment of the movie.
Can you think of a more perfect date night? We can’t! And we think there is a good chance that this one will start a bidding war!
And our other fine dining auction lot comes from food blogger favourite, the very lovely La Mouette restaurant in Sea Point. Chef patron Henry Vigar has worked in kitchens all over the world since he was 14 years old and it was in 2008 while working as head chef at Kensington Place in London’s Notting Hill that he met his wife-to-be, South African Mari Vermaak. Both had dreamed of opening their own restaurant and once they moved back to South Africa two years later, they set about making the dream a reality by purchasing a beautiful old building in Regents Road, Sea Point. In May 2010, La Mouette opened its doors and has not looked back since. With the restaurant’s commitment to using the freshest local produce in modern French cuisine; its meticulous selection of wines to complement the food; its democratically priced seasonal tasting menus; tinkly courtyard fountain; and Mari’s bubbly personality overseeing the guests, La Mouette have hit on a winning formula.
La Mouette have very kindly donated a 6-course tasting menu for 2 people plus a bottle of wine as one of our auction lots. And if you want to bid on it, you’re going to have to outbid ME first because La Mouette is one of my favourite restaurants in Cape Town!
