Meet the speakers: Nicola Pretorius

Food stylist Nicola Pretorius is the co-founder and Editor of The Pretty Blog, a hugely popular South African wedding & lifestyle blog that launched in 2010. Her happiest memories were of helping her mother cook, watching their beloved neighbour bake birthday cakes for one of her 5 children, and pretending to have her own cooking show. After watching way too many hours of BBC Food, and spending many school holidays and weekends cooking, she decided she wanted to be in the food industry.

After completing a culinary diploma, Nicola worked under Franck Dangereux in the pastry section at the renowned La Colombe restaurant.  She later assisted food editor Vickie de Beer with food preparation, propping, styling, recipe writing and testing.  During this time she did work for Rooi Rose, Food & Home, Shape, Baba & Kleuter and Elle South Africa. While doing a degree in International Studies she also did freelance work for Food & Home Magazine, and even got the cover with her first feature. In 2008 Nicola met photographer Christine Meintjies and the idea for The Pretty Blog was conceived.

We are thrilled that Nicola will be presenting a 90 minute hands-on food styling workshop at the 2014 Indaba, and we know that delegates are going to be inspired.  You can see what Nicola is up to by reading The Pretty Blog or you can follow her on Twitter (@nicola_pret).

And if the prospect of hearing Nicola speak has not yet persuaded you to attend, have you seen our funky venue?  And have you heard that we will be auctioning off some truly amazing prizes in a charity auction to raise funds for the South African Guide-Dogs Association for the Blind, our chosen charity for 2014?  Want to buy a ticket? Click here to register now. See you at the Indaba!

If you’d like a nifty Indaba badge to display in your sidebar, please e-mail Colleen or Jeanne and we will send you the code!
